Evangeline J Poulos

Born in Memphis, TN - Currently in Berkeley, CA

Evangeline Poulos is a multidisciplinary artist based in Berkeley, California, working primarily in paper cutouts, embroidery and painting. From within the Greek diaspora, she uses classical imagery to explore identity, mythology and collective memory. Evangeline is also interested in how these visual traditions have been made colorless within modern Western institutions and appropriated in support of repressive narratives. Through the reintroduction of color and material presence, she reclaims these forms as spaces of complexity, vulnerability and resistance.
