Evangeline J Poulos

Born in Memphis, TN - Currently in Berkeley, CA

Evangeline Poulos is a multidisciplinary artist based in Berkeley, California, working primarily in paper cutouts, embroidery and painting. Her practice explores themes of family, collective memory and mythology.

Working from within the Greek diaspora, she uses classical imagery to examine both longing and estrangement. She is particularly interested in how these visual traditions have been rendered colorless within modern Western institutions and appropriated in support of exclusionary or repressive narratives. Through the reintroduction of color and material presence, she reclaims these forms as sites of complexity, vulnerability and resistance.
